DRAW THE LINE

Engaging Ontarians in a dialogue about sexual violence.

Someone posts on Facebook that Daniella is "actually a dude."

Do you share it?

Why Draw the Line

"Outing" someone can create a threatening and dangerous situation and crosses the line to harassment, which is against the law. 62% of trans students experience "cyberbullying" or online harassment.

When to Draw the Line

It's never okay for trans people to be treated with scorn or ridicule. Challenge sexual violence or transphobia as soon as it comes up online or in person.

How to Draw the Line

There's always more than one option for a bystander. Take a stand safely and do something that you feel comfortable with. You could:

  • It stops here: Never share potentially harmful posts on social media.
  • Report it: "Flag" it, delete it and tell someone you trust — a teacher, a principal, a parent/caregiver or elder.
  • Spark positive change: Consider posting a separate message highlighting positive resources on trans inclusion or respectful language.
